Local Liberal Democrats announce Andrew Timothy as the candidate for Stray, Woodlands, and Hookstone by-election
Andrew Timothy has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Stray, Woodlands, and Hookstone by-election due to take place on April 11th.
Andrew has been officially selected by the Liberal Democrats and will be focused on getting residents in the local area a fair deal, after years of Conservative administration in Northallerton taking the area for granted.
The local Liberal Democrats have won two recent North Yorkshire Council by-elections, and have previously held this Council division.
Andrew, who hopes to be the next Liberal Democrat councillor for Stray, Woodlands, and Hookstone, has a strong record of local campaigning across the area, having knocked on hundreds of doors working alongside Tom Gordon, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Harrogate & Knaresborough.
Andrew is a scientist, with an academic background and degree in chemistry, and works locally as a lab analyst. In his spare time, Andrew volunteers as a church steward, and is often found taking part in local pub quizzes.
Andrew will be running a positive campaign to fight for a fair deal for local residents from Conservative-run North Yorkshire Council.
Andrew Timothy, Liberal Democrat candidate for the Stray, Woodlands, & Hookstone by-election, said:
“I am truly honoured to have been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Stray, Woodlands, and Hookstone by-election. As your councillor, I will fight tirelessly to give people a strong voice here in Harrogate and in Northallerton.
“This is a beautiful and iconic part of our town, with a strong sense of community. We need an independent voice who will listen to concerns and stand up for local people.
“People tell me our area deserves a fair deal. They tell me that the new North Yorkshire Council, created by the Conservatives, just isn’t working.
“They have left our roads to crumble, removed much needed public bins, and are cutting back on services across the board. Simply put they have taken our area for granted.
“I’ll be the candidate that champions our area, campaigning for better local services and infrastructure, fighting against the Conservative council tax increases, and delivering on local residents’ priorities.”
Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Harrogate and Knaresborough, welcomed Andrew Timothy’s selection saying:
“Andrew would make a fantastic councillor. I have seen first hand how passionate he is about delivering change for local people across the area and I know he will be a strong voice standing up for the community that he is part of.
“This by-election will be a choice between electing a hard working Liberal Democrat local champion in Andrew Timothy, or the Conservatives who will see this as an endorsement of their failures at North Yorkshire Council and in Westminster if they win.”
